An extract of a presentation by Jon Collins, Campaign Director of the Criminal Justice Alliance to the Centre for Parliamentary Studies on May 18 2010

‘The purpose of the criminal justice system is to deliver justice for all, by convicting and punishing the guilty and helping them to stop offending, while protecting the innocent. It is responsible for detecting crime and bringing it to justice; and carrying out the orders of court, such as collecting fines, and supervising community and custodial punishment.’
There were 4.7 million recorded crimes in 2008, 1.3 million offences were ‘solved’ and 1.69 million offenders were found guilty or cautioned.

I have been out just over 2 years, i am aware that this (so called) achievement puts me into a small percentage of released prisoners, the thing that bothers me is that probation will claim that the rehabilatation proves that prison works. Rubbish! Everyone in stir will say and do whatever it takes to get out and keep the under achievers that staff probation offices at bay! Untill probation bosses ensure that thier staff tell the truth and stop making it up as they go then the results they have will remain useless and therefore misleading. I say this as a man whom probation breached and then lost the subsequent trial, on the day of the trial i was spoken to by a probation manager who made threats to me, along the lines of plead guilty or we'll make you pay in the future. A classic example of behavioral problems of under achievers, i wonder...... Who should really be in the dock?
