Visiting somebody in prison is not particularly easy to organise when there are so many varying rules and individual requirements for each establishment. For families and friends visiting prisoners it will already be a stressful and emotional time and avoiding the many pitfalls can help.
There are general rules that apply to visiting most prisons but there are also many local variations and peculiarities. The aim of this service is to provide the details needed to make any visit go as smoothly as possible.
PACT have made a short video about visiting a prison and have kindly agreed to allow it to be shown here. Please see below.
To obtain the specific details about the prison you intend visiting you can either select an establishment by name, using the alphabetical drop down menu at the top of this screen or by region using the clickable areas embedded in the map. There is also an option for anyone considering a transfer, to select prisons by category from the category menu provided.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION:
For those planning the journey by road or public transport there is detailed information available including printable maps and directions.
If your journey is likely to involve an overnight stay in the local area or the use of local bus or taxi service, you will find useful information about the services available in the area by scrolling down to the bottom section. Making all the necessary arrangements before setting off on the journey can help avoid complications and reduce the overall costs.
