Booking on-line
You can now book visits to this prison on-line without a Visiting Order (VO).
You will need the prisoner’s full name, date of birth, prison number and prison.
Provide three alternative visit slots and you will get a confirmation email within three days.
It is still be possible to book visits by phoning the booking line but the new system should do much to overcome the frustration and waiting on the phone for hours that is currently experienced although if you are looking to book at short notice it may still be better to telephone where possible.

Maximum limits: 3 adults with 2 children or 2 adults with 3 children

When you arrive you should book in at the Visitor Centre where your name will be checked and you will be given a queuing number.

The last admission is 15:00

Nappies and baby milk sachets can be purchased and there is a nappy changing room in the Inner Prison Waiting Room.

There is a public payphone in the Visitor Centre.

There is a well equipped play area in the Visit Hall which is open to children of all ages. The facility is run by four childcare Play Leaders employed by The Humber Pre-School Alliance. This facility is usually available on visit days between 13:30 and 16:30

Starting Your Visit

You will be called to the main prison in numbered order. On entering the prison you will be required to;
Place all personal belongings in a tray
Remove jackets and coats to be x-rayed
You may be asked to briefly remove your shoes
You then pass through a portal (similar to airport detectors)
You will be directed to the Visits Waiting Area
You may be subject to a search
Once inside the Visit Room you will be directed to a table for your visit.


The range of acceptable ID  is as follows:

One of the following photo IDs is OK
Passport (including foreign nationals)

European Community ID cards

New 'Photo Style' Driving Licence

Local Authority Senior Citizens' Transport Pass

Employers or student ID cards (providing the employer's name or the educational establishment are named on the card and the photo is recognisable)

Photo bearing disability passes

If you have another type of photo ID and wish it to be considered staff will get advice from the Duty Governor - however it would be safer to contact the prison in advance and get advice.

If you do not have any form of Photo ID then visits staff may accept two or more of the following;
Birth / Marriage Certificate

Cheque book with guarantee card (counts as one)

Non-photo employers or student ID card

Young person's 'proof of Age Card'

Trade Union or National Students' Union Card

Rent book

Foreign Identity Cards or residents' Cards

ID Cards from recognised Prison Visitors' organisations such as New Bridge.

If you still have problems supplying ID you should contact the prison well in advance of your visit to seek advice.



Take a train to Doncaster Station, then follow bus directions below. Alternatively taxi's cost around £12.

Facilities at Doncaster Station: Waiting room, refreshments, toilets, baby changing facilities, pay phone and ATM. The whole station is step free.

The journey is approximately 10 miles and takes 30 minutes.
