Booking in time is between 12:00 and 16:30


Doncaster provides crèche facilities in the hall and your children will be supervised by trained personnel. The crèche area is open from 13:30 - 17:30 for children who are of an age that can walk unaided. The parent or guardian must inform the crèche staff of their name and location.

At weekends nobody will be be booked in until after 12:00 or go into the prison until 30 minutes after the midday roll count is correct.

Visitors aged 17 can apply to the Director to visit unaccompanied if special circumstances apply.

The only items allowed into the Visit Room are;  Visiting Order and ID, Canteen card, locker key, baby's nappy and feeding bottle.

Visitors buy a ‘debit card’ for £1 (which they keep) and can then add money to it to buy refreshments. They keep the card and use it each time they visit.

If unconvicted prisoners cannot receive daily visits the Director may allow them to be accumulated into a longer visit once a week.

The prisoner must make a request 24 hours prior to the visit.

HMP/YOI Doncaster is a Private Prison operated by Serco

•Valid driving licence – photo bearing
•Senior citizen public transport pass (photo bearing)
•Annual public transport season ticket (photo bearing)
•Employer's I.D. card (must show name of visitor/employer's name/photograph and signature)
•Photo bearing disability car permit (issued by local authority)
•European ID Card (photo bearing)

•Cheque book/credit/debit/store card with signature
•Young person's proof of age card
•Trade Union or Student Union membership card
•Birth Certificate
•Marriage Certificate
•Bill with address that matches VO
•Rent books (considered to be a bill so cannot be used with another bill)

•Library Card with signature
•Plastic National Insurance Card
•Foreign Identity or Residence Card



The prison is situated half a mile (15 minutes walk) from Doncaster Railway Station. There are train connections from Sheffield, Leeds and main stations along the North-East. When exiting the railway station turn left and walk for about 300 yards. Walk over the North Bridge and on the left you will find steps going down. The prison is straight ahead. You can also catch the Stagecoach Yorkshire Route 219  towards Barnsley for the short distance if walking is difficult.

Facilities at Doncaster Station: Waiting room, refreshments, toilets, baby changing facilities, pay phone and ATM. The whole station is step free.
