The following is a letter to insidetime, from issue February 2012
In response to the letter by Lee Wooky ‘Forget the junkies, feed me’ (December issue), if he took the trouble to drop into the prison library and read the IMB report of 2010 he would see that the government is cutting funding to prisons on a spectacular scale! Here at HMP Liverpool we have had £1.7 million cut from the budget. All prisons are cutting back, particularly on food – most prison menus now consist of sandwiches. But as someone who takes methadone I take offence at Lee, and others, pointing the finger at drug addicts. Yes, we all know that there are some real dogs addicted to drugs, who do bad things, but it’s not the ‘junkies’ who are responsible for his hunger, it is the government cuts. He should remember that and not look for scapegoats for his justifiable anger.
